Life on The Farm

Growing up my family would visit our parents home state of Kentucky a few times a year and visit family. Our (Teddy and I’s) aunt and uncle owned a farm in Madisonville Kentucky with cows, pigs, dogs and cats. As a child I looked forward to visiting my Aunt Anne’s farm and helping my Uncle Raymond with farm chores, playing outdoors, building snowmen in the winter, and attempting to catch kittens in the barn with my brother and cousins. Their farm was a magical place full of life and warmth. When we started planning a new way of life and a better way for Teddy to live and be active, I couldn’t stop thinking about those childhood memories on the farm! What better way to live better but in the wide open spaces of a farm, fresh air and miles of green. When we moved to the farm in Gray Court I had minimal knowledge of what it would take to run a farm but we learned quickly it was going to take a lot of work and help. Since moving here in 2016 we have learned how to raise free range chickens, how not to grow a garden (let’s just say I do not have a green thumb), how to wrangle cows back into a pasture, how to fix a fence, what it takes to maintain twenty four plus acres, plus so much more and one of my favorites how to wrestle a 500 pound donkey! When you visit our farm you will likely meet many of our animal friends but Wayne will most likely leave the biggest impression. Wayne is our “Jerusalem Donkey” and his best donkey buddy Frankie (I donkey buddy because Wayne has a few best friends including our golf cart, more about that in a later post) are Ole Blue Truck Farms resident pasture maintenance crew. I look forward to sharing many stories about our life here on the farm as well as the people and animals living here, the venue, and of course Wayne! We still have a lot to learn about living on a farm but we have been so blessed to live on the farm together. It is our hope to share this space with our community and for our farm to be a magical place for you as it is for us full of memories that will last a life time.
